Our Brownrice server is being updated and will be offline for about 5 minutes.
We’re currently waiting for a response from Brownrice since the server stopped responding several minutes ago. We’ll post more info as soon as we have it.
Update: it looks like the entire Brownrice network might be down and not just our server.
Update: the server is back. Still waiting for a response from Brownrice. But at least all sites are back online!
Update: Brownrice Support says: “we had a big fiber cut today so for much of the day we were running off
our backup connections. Apparently when our normal connections came
back we tried routing traffic a bit prematurely. Outage was about 25 minutes.”
We are investigating issues with our Brownrice dedicated hosting.
UPDATE: We restarted the Apache web server and they sites came back online. We are investigating for causes now.
Our Brownrice Dedicated Server is currently being bombarded with requests from Reddit readers. So performance is currently suffering. We will do everything in our power to keep the server online while this spike in traffic continues. We apologize for any slowness or downtime.
UPDATE: This usage spike seems to be over.
We are updating the Apache web server software on our Brownrice server now. It will be done in a few minutes, but there may be a shirt amount of downtime.
UPDATE: The upgrade is completed at 9:09am MST.
We are currently running some security updates on our BrownRice Dedicated Server. Some domains will experience downtime during this period. The server will be back up as soon as possible.
UPDATE: The server is back online and fully upgraded.
We are investigating an issue on the Brownrice server. Will post info as we have it here.
UPDATE: The server is back online. Talking to the web host to find out what happened.
UPDATE: The mySQL database server processes hung and was using 100% of the server’s CPU. This caused the server to crash. We have updated the Apache configuration to use more conservative settings which will hopefully prevent this issue from occurring again. We will continue to update this post if any more info becomes available.
UPDATE: We are taking some steps to further protect the server now and will reboot after it’s done. We are updating the Linux kernel and the web server software.
We are currently investigating a possible Brute Force attack or DDoS on our Brown Rice server. Updates will be posted here as we have more info.
UPDATE: we have the server back online, still investigating the issues.
UPDATE: Brownrice Internet reports the issue was actually a network problem, a problem with the cable, and they are going to replace it shortly with a new cable, will be a short blip outage as they perform switchover.
We are currently working with Dreamhost support to determine the cause of the downtime domains on our Dreamhost server are currently experiencing. Stay tuned for updates. We expect to have this resolved very quickly and apologize for the interruption.
UPDATE: the server is back online. The issue was caused by an overly restrictive firewall configuration. We will be monitoring.
We are going to perform a server reboot this morning, some domains will experience brief downtime during this reboot. This will only affect sites hosted on our DreamHost dedicated server.
UPDATE: The server reboot went fine, no further issues are anticipated.
